Why spot repair is different

The BLSTRsander wasn't developed to replace large-scale abrasive blasting in fabrication shops. It was engineered for one of the most expensive challenges in industrial maintenance: localized surface preparation and spot repair. Heavy-duty protective coating systems are normally applied in controlled factory environments after full abrasive blasting. These multi-layer systems — often exceeding 1 mm dry film thickness (DFT) — protect valuable assets against corrosion for decades. But once structures are transported, installed or put into service, coating damage becomes unavoidable.

Typical damage:

Mechanical damage during transport or lifting Scratches during assembly and installation Weld repairs and structural modifications Corrosion around bolts, welds and edges Damage from inspections or maintenance Local coating failures from impact or abrasion

Even a small damaged area can expose bare steel and become the starting point for corrosion — threatening the long-term integrity of the entire asset.

The challenge of conventional spot repair

Repairing only a few square centimetres often requires the same logistics as repairing several square metres.

Traditional abrasive blasting needs

  • Large air compressors
  • Long air hoses
  • Abrasive blasting pots
  • Containment systems
  • Dust control
  • Safety barriers
  • Additional personnel
  • Significant setup and dismantling time

In many cases the preparation and mobilisation take far longer — and cost far more — than the actual blasting itself.

Designed for real industrial maintenance

The BLSTRsander eliminates most of this complexity. Simply connect the unit to electrical power, add abrasive, and start surface preparation exactly where it is needed. Its portable design lets operators work efficiently in confined spaces, elevated locations and inside structures where conventional compressor blasting is difficult, expensive or simply impractical.

Reduce downtime. Reduce logistics. Increase flexibility.

For industrial spot repair, productivity isn't only measured in square metres per hour. The real savings come from:

Eliminating compressor mobilisation Reducing setup time Lower labour requirements Faster intervention after coating damage Reduced downtime of valuable assets High-quality surface preparation exactly where it's required

The BLSTRsander makes professional abrasive blasting available wherever maintenance needs to be performed — without the complexity of traditional blasting equipment.
